PDFING NEWSLETTER NO: 15 - 29th June 2005 ========================================= I regret to say that our previous release of PDFing (v3.0.0.17 - 20th May 2005) caused problems when running as NT service. In particular the service could stop during the "file purge" process (which happens once every 24 hours), if a spooled-file was received at the same time. After this error, the PDFing service did not respond to the "Stop" service command and the Service client (PDFingCntrl.exe) would also stop responding. I have now released a new version (v3.0.0.18) of PDFing, which solves these NT Service problems. Please can you download the "windows installer" file for PDFing from our site at: http://www.pdfing.com/down/pdfing.msi You will need to stop the PDFing Service, before re-installing PDFing. As you have previously installed a copy of PDFing, you will be asked to remove the previous version. You may take the remove option from Windows Installer, or go to the "Add/Remove Programs" control-panel applet and remove PDFing. The remove process will leave your configuration and markup files intact. When you re-install PDFing into the same directory, you will find your configuration exactly as it was, so no further action will be required, apart from re-starting. Some users also reported that this version was slower than V3.0.0.16 and we have re-adjusted thread priorities, so that it now runs at a comparable or (slightly) faster pace. In addition to the "fixes", the [Advanced] page of the configuration form now includes a control labelled: "Re-build DB ?". This control, if set to YES, causes the "grid" database to be re-built from scratch, whenever PDFing is re-started. I must apologise again for my error, I think we were in too much of a hurry to go on holiday. We have performed testing with 50,000+ spooled-files and I am confident that this version will correct the reported problems and prove much more stable in environments with heavy processing requirements.
