PDFING NEWSLETTER NO 12 - 4th November 2004 =========================================== Since our last newsetter in June, we have continued to work on the spooled-file to Excel feature. Thanks to the many customers who have supplied examples of spooled-files, we now have a much better idea of your requirements. Version 3 of PDFing has proved to be very reliable but I am sorry to say that our last release did contain "bugs" which affected several customers. The latest version of PDFing (v3.0.0.11) released on 2nd November 2004, includes fixes for these bugs as well as several additional features, as suggested by our customers. Lua for PDFing continues to be a great success, it has enables us to customise PDFing to suit a customer's requirements, without any changes to PDFing itself. See http://www.pdfing.com/pdfinglua.html In this letter: --------------- Spooled-file to Excel PDFing release v3.0.0.11 Requests for Enhancements Spooled-file to Excel --------------------- The scripting-language and development environment has now been renamed from Luasheet to LuateX and a new web-site has been created at: http://www.luatex.com. The LuateX language is compatible with Luasheet and your existing scripts will continue to run correctly. When revising scripts using LuateX, you should be aware of a few significant changes: Table: Column.Range has been renamed to Column.Source and table: Column.Source is also passed (for convenience) as the second parameter of "event" functions. The Luatex IDE is available from: http://www.luatex.com/down PDFing release v3.0.0.11 ------------------------ The latest version of PDFing is now available from: http://www.pdfing.com/down This release fixes some significant bugs and adds several new features. For more detail, please see: http://www.pdfing.com/releasehist.html We have added a [Text] page to the "markup" form. This allows you to select (up tp 20) text-strings from the spooled-file and to substitute these strings for the "special-characters" &1 through &20. We have just added a "filter" function for the NT Service controller to allow for selective display of spooled-files. Please note that the user-interface for the filter is still in development. We aim to increase it usability over the next few months. We hope that customer feedback will guide us! In the future we may extend this "filter" function to allow management to set permanent filters for selected users/machines. This could be used to prevent selected users from viewing particular spooled-files. Again, we need your feedback to help us with the design of this feature. Requests for Enhancements ------------------------- These include: 1) Printing/Faxing the output PDF files automatically. 2) Merging multiple PDF files into one PDF. We are always pleased to hear of any ideas and suggestions that you may have for PDFing, they really are extremely valuable! Thanks to you, PDFing has many useful features that would otherwise be absent. Regards David Fowle and Jane Hearn
